Let Starr help you shine bright!
Hello everyone, welcome to Bodhi Treatment Center! My name is Starr, Licensed Acupuncturist and Herbalist. A little background: I am a Colorado native, having grown up soaking in the hot springs of Glenwood Springs. Some of my earliest memories are watching my grandparents cook herbal stews in their kitchen to feed me when I was sick. When I was five, I received a toy doctor kit for Christmas. Inspired from that day on, I told my parents that I wanted to be a doctor, and began by treating my first patient, my teddy bear (who was always sick).
I went on to complete my undergraduate education at the University of Colorado, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Bachelor of Science in Biology. Upon graduation, I had to decide which path to follow towards my career in healing. During this time, my love of sports, and my interactions with elite athletes at the collegiate and professional level, caused me to become particularly interested in orthopedic medicine and sports therapy. Additionally, the practices of holistic medicine were very appealing; I wanted to help people achieve sustainable long term health.
Shortly thereafter, I suffered a wrist injury at work. My job with the airlines at the time was physically intensive. Traditional western medicine therapy and medications were not effective. As an alternative, I decided to try acupuncture...the results were nothing short of amazing! A few treatments later, my wrist was pain free, had full range of mobility, and I was feeling healthy and full of energy.
I was given a gift...that gift reminded me that my ancestors were practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This discipline offered me a career that fulfills all of my desires: to heal people with my knowledge and compassion, to practice medicine that is holistic and highly effective, and to feel a strong connection to my ancestral roots.
My path was set. I graduated from Southwest Acupuncture College with a Master of Acupuncture and a Master of Chinese Herbal Medicine. While in graduate school, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to treat many people with a wide variety of ailments, including Division I college athletes and patients with chronic pain or illness. My experience treating these patients strongly reinforced the theory of holistic medicine. Traditional Chinese Medicine consistently addresses patients' whole health composite: that is, the health of body, mind, and emotion. Throughout my experience as a practitioner, the relationship between physical, mental, and emotional health is undeniable. If just one of these three areas is unstable, it will manifest problems in the others.
I believe that every patient I interact with is also my teacher. Every patient has a unique health profile with unique issues. Together, we will determine your unique treatment plan to achieve optimal results. Everyone has their own story to tell; I just want to be part of the happy ending!
